Quick Announcement: Personal Tumblr and YouTube Re-brand!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to make a quick announcement. After much thinking, I recently decided to re-brand my personal Tumblr and personal YouTube channel. Doing this will help to compliment this blog, and will act as extensions of it. From now on, my personal Tumblr will be named “Elipalooza+” and my personal YouTube will be named “Elipalooza“.

While this blog will be centered more on stuff like op:eds, commentaries, reviews, critiques, self-reflection, and the like, Elipalooza+ will be more laid-back. It will sort-of serve as my ‘public’ personal Facebook, in that I’m going to post shorter, public personal updates, quick thoughts/opinion pieces, and just random, fun stuff that I find that I really like. I had to take a bit of a hiatus from Tumblr but I’m now active on it again, so feel free to follow me over there!

As for my personal YouTube channel, that will be more experimental and (just like Elipalooza+) more laid-back. I will be posting random stuff that I like, including more playlists of stuff on YouTube I like. It’ll be nothing dedicated…this is just going to be a fun little side-project that I’m going to do on my spare time, so updates will be infrequent. (If you want something more dedicated and ‘professional’, then head on over to the PROJEKT61 channel, which can now also be found on Vidme).

Overall, the premise of both Elipalooza+ and the Elipalooza YouTube channels are to serve as places where I’m free to express myself (sort of like this blog). Hope you all enjoy the new changes!

P.S. I recently created a blog where I will be documenting my music journey, as well as providing useful information and other stuff for music producers/artists. You can check it out here!

Victory! Social Security Administration Updates Gender Change Policy

The Social Security Administration has finally made it easier for Trans (and Intersex) people to change their gender marker with them. Sex Reassignment Surgery is no longer required to make a gender change with the SSA. This is really great news! It wasn’t so long ago that I was criticizing the SSA for not updating their then-outdated policy on gender marker change. In addition, I was stressing out about having to deal with them for a long time to come, and how their then-outdated policy would affect me as not just a Transgender person (but not Transsexual), but as an Intersex person too. I’m so glad that I don’t have to stress out about this. I was very surprised to find out that this changed happened so soon, instead of later as I originally feared.

As for my  particular situation, I’m going to see if I can get my doctor to make a note for me to change my gender marker with the SSA, during my next doctor’s appointment.

Show ‘N’ Tell: Eli Turner Tumblr

Eli Turner Tumblr blog

About two weeks ago, I launched the Eli Turner Tumblr blog. It is primarily going to focus on my work in hip-hop music – demos, ideas, works in progress, finished tracks, whereabouts, etc. I am also thinking about launching a separate blog for showing my design work – I just thought that it would be best if I separated my two fields. I also thought about using my first name Ryan as my designer name, while leaving my second name Eli as my music name, but I’m still thinking about it (It’s probably best if I did).

So while I’m using my Tumblr blog to show my art, I’m using my WordPress blog (this one) as my personal blog. Like it says in my “about” page I started this blog in 2010 with the intention to share my personal stuff with everyone and to get experience at blogging (I also did it for fun) and I intend to keep it that way. Now what I need to do is come up with more material to share, as well as schedule more time to write full-length posts (this is my main issue).

So far, I have shared the artwork for my debut mixtape “The Lenovo Album” (which is for the Lenovo crowd), and two music ideas that I came up with yesterday (they’re my first music releases). Head over to my Tumblr blog to view the artwork for and find out a bit more about “The Lenovo Album”, as well as to hear my very first music releases (which are ideas for full-length tracks). (By the way, this means that I will have to open up my SoundCloud account soon, since I’m finally starting to do work in music – after two years of studying. I’m having a great time doing this – and I’m just getting started!)

Update 11-2-2012: I decided to make the focus of the Eli Turner Tumblr on my hip-hop music and design work. I will continue to be credited as Eli Turner on design work. I’m thinking about making a personal Tumblr which I’ll probably call “Ryan Turner’s Tumblr”.

A Note On My Previous Post

My previous post (as well as some of my other posts) may seem shocking to most of you, but I want everyone to understand that you haven’t experienced life the way I have, so you may not understand me and my intentions. I’ve had to deal with insensitive people (including my own parents and sibling) – who’ve were intolerant of my differences, as well as hostile environments – where my needs were not being met. The only things I had to hang on to were ThinkPad, Lenovo, music, design, art, and entertainment. The only people who could understand me were my cousins. ThinkPad is like a teacher to me – I used my imagination to personify ThinkPad, as well as the other Lenovo PCs, in order to make sense of my world, understand people more, and to help me grow as a person – I wouldn’t be here if I had never done that. So as you can see, I’m not doing this to offend people or to put people off and alienate them or anything like that. I’m doing this simply to show my ThinkPad/Lenovo pride and how much they mean to me, in a very creative, original way – the post I made previously is a piece of (literal) art.

2012 Blog Resolution?

It looks like I didn’t get to blog much last year and there are two reasons for that. The first one is because I was busy with my music education (i’m self-schooling). The second one, I guess, was because I was struggling with writer’s block. I always have lots of ideas but choosing one is the hardest part. I needed to be inspired and I didn’t know where to look. Just this past weekend, I came upon a blog called “The Daily Post”, where I also found this thing called “Post a Day/Week 2011”.

It looks like i’ll be participating in the challenge. I’ll be posting at least once a week (I said “least” because I may post more than once a week – there’s always that possibility…and then there’s that possibility where I won’t post for an entire week because of some kind of time constraint). This challenge will give me a chance to further improve my blogging skills, and get ready for my next project, which is my artist blog (I’ll be going into further detail in a future post). Overall, I think this will be fun.

In addition to posting about my artist blog, I plan on posting some pictures I took last year that I would like to share with everyone. I want to post a design that I worked on and finished late last year. I’m also thinking about discussing the name of this blog and why I chose it, and sharing some websites in the future. Those are just some of my plans to start this challenge. More things will be coming as they come up. I think i’m finally getting the hang of this blogging thing.

I guess this is a new year’s resolution for me.

(By the way, shouldn’t Post a Day/Week 2011 be Post a Day/Week 2012 by now?)

My first blog!

Hi Everybody,

This is my first blog and I just wanted to say how excited I am to share my thoughts, ideas, and feelings of whatever I want to talk about with all of you!

Now, to get started, I want to share with you all something that I did involving my favorite computer brand. It’s a wallpaper that I made about the Lenovo ThinkPad R and L series. For those of you not familiar with Lenovo and the ThinkPad, the R series has been replaced with (but I like to call it “turned into”) the L series. The message that I want to send to everyone is that the R series isn’t really “dead”, it simply has been turned into the L seires (they’re both “mainstream enterprise” ThinkPads). There are two versions of it and here are the links:

I hope that you all like it!
